New York –
Maybe in the future, flying vehicles and even buses in space will become a reality. A startup in New York wants to make it happen, where they develop a kind of flying bus based on drone technology.
Kelekona, a New York-based startup, revealed plans for a vehicle called the electric vertical takeoff and landing craft (eVTOL). This flying bus will be a means of transportation between cities, the first route is between the cities of Manhattan and Hampton.
The trip will take about half an hour and costs USD 85, which is cheap in America because it is equivalent to a train ticket. Kelekona plans to fly the first passengers in 2024 and later expand to other cities.
The startup’s founder, Braeden Kelekona, said that his fleet is better than land vehicles where people have to wait long or cramped. Because the air space in New York is limited, this flying bus must fit a lot of people.
“There is a means of mass transportation that people rely on here. So, it makes sense to try to get as many people as possible on one plane so that it doesn’t overcrowd the sky,” he was quoted as saying. detikINET from the Daily Mail, Friday (11/6/2021).
This flying bus is designed to be able to fly agile, both take off and land vertically. The batteries are replaceable to ensure a one-hour trip, eliminating the need to rely on a power outlet.
In addition to delivering ordinary passengers, Kelekona hopes that in the future this product can also be used to carry military personnel on the battlefield or to assist in emergency situations. Next year, the plan is for this flying bus prototype to be realized.
